I was born and raised in Annapolis County and have resided here most of the 33 years of my teaching career. I am married and have two adult children that I am deeply proud of. Culture and a keen sense of community connection has always been a priority for me. I truly value being a member of various committees, fundraising initiatives, volunteering, and business ventures. The time and sacrifice for each of the mentioned responsibilities has always returned a feeling of being valued within various communities I have proudly served.
If elected, will you support taking the dispute with Valley Waste to binding arbitration?
If elected in District 7, the first step is to ensure council and citizens understand the process of, “arbitration” before proceeding. This education is critical so everyone understands the due process and possible outcomes. Active citizen engagement with council starts with presenting the case, understanding the facts, outlining the risks and seeking a possible resolve. The dispute is already on the books, so I will support the resolution procedure instead of going to court. Valley Waste is willing to work with the council. Working together to restore this partnership will be my focus. We owe it to our county!
The lack of rural internet has been a pressing issue for over 15 years and while there are some concrete signs of preparation for some new installations, there still remains a number of County residents who will not be afforded the same level of internet service when it is all said and done.
If elected, can you commit to advocating for the same level of service for all residents, including “final mile” residents? Yes or No
Yes, advocating for citizens in this county to receive the, “essential and deserving’ internet service is critical! I will listen to citizens, past council discussions revisited and questioned, and citizen voices will go to the council table via “me,”, as the system advances. Options to work from home are real and it is time to bring equal opportunity to everyone.
Annapolis County elects 11 councillors for a population of approximately 19,000. The councillors then elect a warden from amongst themselves. Total remuneration is $405,062.
Kings County elects 9 councillors for a population of approximately 49,000. Since 2016 a mayor has been elected by the population at large. Total remuneration is $392,688.
1) Do you support a review of the number of councillors required for Annapolis County? Yes, a councillor review is required.
2) Do you support having a mayor elected by the population at large? Yes, I support the mayor elected model. A mayor has the ability to bring wisdom, experience, as well as time and dedication to a very important position. The county population can meet potential candidates to review
experience, level of municipal understanding and reputation for effective leadership as it pertains to county business for citizens.
What ideas or plans do you have for constructive community engagement?
As councillor for District 7, public consultation is my focus for old and new initiatives that allow citizens an opportunity to engage in dialogue for clarity so decisions can be made collectively. To build relationships and be visible in district 7 is extremely important, whether it is a community event or a request to meet. I will be reliable when receiving email, calls or other means of communication with timely responses to citizens so rebuilding their confidence and reaffirming their voice matters. Something new, district 7 zoom and newsletter update once a month is something I will commit to.
What do you see as the top three priorities for Annapolis County, and how do you plan to address them?
