Born and raised in Parker’s Cove, Annapolis County, is where I have resided most of my life and proudly serving in the health-field as a registered nurse and recent owner of Grace Haven for 25+ years. Being able to give back to communities has been a highlight for me throughout the last 20 years.
If elected, will you support taking the dispute with Valley Waste to binding arbitration?
I absolutely believe that this is the only manner in which to approach this issue. This is a very sensitive matter. When we forget to include all stakeholders and clearly this has been the case with regards to Valley Waste, the citizens were not aware of the changes being made. Their voices matter. We cannot afford to disregard the voices of our people. If they had been part of a process this may not have even gotten to this point. Courts cost huge money and this would be another financial disaster for our county.
The lack of rural internet has been a pressing issue for over 15 years and while there are some concrete signs of preparation for some new installations, there still remains a number of County residents who will not be afforded the same level of internet service when it is all said and done.
If elected, can you commit to advocating for the same level of service for all residents, including “final mile” residents? Yes or No
Yes it is critical!
I feel very strongly about ALL citizens having access to sufficient internet services; I have seen the limitations of below-average internet services first-hand, working from home and having children in school. I intend to take the inquiries and concerns of citizens to council and advocate strongly for this most essential service in District 5.
Annapolis County elects 11 councillors for a population of approximately 19,000. The councillors then elect a warden from amongst themselves. Total remuneration is $405,062.
Kings County elects 9 councillors for a population of approximately 49,000. Since 2016 a mayor has been elected by the population at large. Total remuneration is $392,688.
1) Do you support a review of the number of councillors required for Annapolis County? Yes a review of the number of councillors.
2) Do you support having a mayor elected by the population at large?
Yes I am totally in favour of a mayor elected by the population at large. Every citizen should have a voice/ vote and those contending should demonstrate competence and qualifications necessary to lead council.
What ideas or plans do you have for constructive community engagement?
Engaging with citizens requires a serious commitment. As District 5 Councillor, I will make in-person interaction and reinstate citizen engagement by hosting small forums regularly. Local government is the closest to the people and in order to restore best practices, I will commit to joining you at hall gatherings, fundraisers, zoom updates, online presence to gain insight and listen and value intently to citizen’s concerns. I will begin my term facilitating a questionnaire to gather the citizens ideas and concerns. These topics will be communicated back to council to ensure your voices are being shared and supported, then reporting back.
What do you see as the top three priorities for Annapolis County, and how do you plan to address them?
Communication is paramount! I believe in honest and open communication. As your councillor, I will be your voice by keeping you informed in person, public meets, and through technology. I want to bring back transparency to county citizens.
Financial responsibility and accountability.
We deserve as county citizens to be informed on our financial health. We have met serious challenges of late. I will gain access to information and provide answers to YOU, who give tax dollars in trust.
Business and Economic growth is imperative, where we meet and grow as a county. As tax paying citizens, I will be responsible and discuss a vision that is cautious yet doable. I will commit to fiscal responsibility and publicly to gain trust.
