If elected, will you support taking the dispute with Valley Waste to binding arbitration?

Arbitration is a winner-take-all technique that tells parties to the dispute and interested on-lookers that a reasonable solution could not be agreed through other methods.

I believe we are reasonable people.

The lack of rural internet has been a pressing issue for over 15 years and while there are some concrete signs of preparation for some new installations, there still remains a number of County residents who will not be afforded the same level of internet service when it is all said and done.

If elected, can you commit to advocating for the same level of service for all residents, including “final mile” residents? Yes or No

Yes, I commit to advocating for same level of internet service for all. It is a deserving goal and I will do all I can to achieve the goal.

Annapolis County elects 11 councillors for a population of approximately 19,000. The councillors then elect a warden from amongst themselves. Total remuneration is $405,062.

Kings County elects 9 councillors for a population of approximately 49,000. Since 2016 a mayor has been elected by the population at large. Total remuneration is $392,688.

1) Do you support a review of the number of councillors required for Annapolis County? Yes or No

Yes, I do. The review should be done in accordance with provincial regulations. Please remember we reduced total number of elected representatives in the county when Bridgetown was amalgamated.

2) Do you support having a mayor elected by the population at large? Yes or No  Yes, I do.

What ideas or plans do you have for constructive community engagement?

I carry out conversations in many ways. I have a district-wide email service and all relevant, interesting and important emails I receive are re-distributed. I also, for a number of years held monthly district meetings and I will resume them.  There are many community functions held in District 6 and private gatherings as well. I will continue my policy and practice of attending any I can. Where two or more are taking place at same time, I support the others in a different fashion. I will continue to “walk the district” and meet citizens where I find them/they find me.

What do you see as the top three priorities for Annapolis County, and how do you plan to address them?

My number one priority for Annapolis County is continuing a process of cooperation among residents. A reasonable, objective exchange of information is important if we are to succeed in this area.

Next is climate change: there is no doubt we live in serious times – climate change-wise. We need to understand more and we need to communicate between county and citizens, and among citizens. We need much more information on the county web page.

Usable high-speed is very important and the county is making great positive strides in that area. The contractor is working very hard and I have high hopes for a great degree of connectivity.
