I have been here in the Annapolis Valley for much of my life and my family has been farming the fertile lands of our community since the late 1700’s. Annapolis County is where my roots lay deep, here is where I am raising a family, developing a business, teaching, and cultivating a farm. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in biology and sociology and social anthropology from Dalhousie University as well as a Bachelor of Education from Mount Saint Vincent University. My core strengths are communication, honesty and networking as well as strong leadership abilities.
What ideas or plans do you have for constructive community engagement?
Constructive Community Engagement begins with having clear and open communication with the citizens of the community. That communication allows people to have a voice in how county makes decisions and the trust encourages people to share their ideas and grow. Just recently the county has begun a project to create citizen advisory groups. These groups work best when they trust their municipal council and work to support getting things done. I intend to foster the communication between the council and constituents by being open and not only hearing but responding to the concerns and feedback of the people.
What do you see as the top three priorities for Annapolis County, and how do you plan to address them?
1. Financial responsibility
As a county we need to curb frivolous spending on unnecessary projects. Our county funds should be reinvested into our infrastructure to create equitable resources for all citizens.
2. Open communication
For too long council has been non-responsive or dismissive of public inquiries. I intend to maintain lines of communication with the citizens of my district as well as other citizens and councillors.
3. Conservation of the Environment
The Annapolis valley is a unique and pristine environment that needs to be protected. I intend to support endeavours that promote the healthy and biodiversity or our county.
